Gluten Free UAE

Hoping to be of help to all those living gluten free in the United Arab Emirates – نأمل أن نكون عوناً لكل من يعيش حياته خالية من الجلوتين في دولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة

Cycle Bistro – Paleo and Beyond

The Cycle Bistro

There is a little friendly café at Motor City, next to the soft play aria called Cycle Bistro. “Paleo and beyond” says the flags in front of the cycle shop. Inside the shop at the corner there is the bistro, a nice and calm friendly place for people who like sport, want to eat real food and finally for us who are gluten free.

Cycle Bistro Motor City

The first and only gluten free restaurant in Dubai beyond that dairy free, soy free. No process food, no sugar, no junk just healthy and absolutely delicious meals.
The Paleo diet should be 100% gluten free but unfortunately not everyone understand just how gluten free things need to be for a celiac, who can get sick from a tiny breadcrumb or cross contamination. We thought its not enough to only ask the waitress but we met with the responsible person to ask the question: is it really gluten free. And the answer is YES!!

Christopher Zerbe the Chef at Cycle Bistro is a successful cook who made our dream come true; and he run’s a place where every Celiac is treated as normal. He also let us take a look behind the scenes.

Beyond the paleo we “create healthy, tasty food everybody can enjoy, we made this a safe place”.

At the café there is no gluten containing food. All the sauces, mayonnaise, pesto, everything is made in the Cycle Bistro. They shop every day from the local farmers, and bring in only fresh organic vegetables. Spices and ingredients from the supermarket is all checked and is all gluten free. The meat organic /grass feed / free range meanly from Europe or Australia.

I asked what happens when he runs out of the correct ingredients,
“If I can get an ingredients gluten free and can’t make the food without it I take off from the menu” Said Christofer and explains that is not worth it to risk the costumers health.
Christopher is much aware about gluten and gluten free, he doesn’t let a single ingredient cross the door if there is gluten in it. The workers cannot eat or store their own food in the café if it has gluten in it.
“It is not possible to serve gluten free food if you work with gluten; you need a separate kitchen, dedicated kitchen utensils and there is still a risk to put them in the same dishwasher, you need to wash them separately ” he explains.

In the Cycle Bistro they serve paleo food and beyond. This means, it is much more than paleo, meaning healthy delicious and safe food. Do not expect 100 paleo cakes and desserts or paleo bread with lots of eggs and nuts. Instead lots of free range meat, organic vegetables and fresh made smoothies. You can find your favorite hot beverage served with paleo milk substitutes such as almond or coconut milk.

You must try

Vegetable Spaghetti

Vegetable Pasta:
My favorite food was definitely the Vegetable Pasta with Heirloom Tomato Sauce, Basil Pesto. I am not craving pasta, but this one is the art of food. The vegetables are cut and cooked al dente, like spaghetti. The sauce will make you forget that you are eating carrot and zucchini. Loved it.

Chicken Breakfast

Grilled Free Range Breakfast Chicken w Mango Salsa, Organic Greens and Blueberries

Sweet Potatoe Fries:
For as little as 10 AED you can get a big bowl of sweet potato fries, and absolutely fabulous, with homemade mayo. Truly better than the potato. .
